WHO ARE WE?
Plankton Art Co. presents itself mainly as an illustration studio, but the truth is that we're really all over the place, working on all sorts of projects: art direction, design, fine art, typography, animation, freelance writing, book publishing, and even motion pictures.

Plankton Art Co. began in 1996. We've been lucky enough to work for the likes of Target, The Smithsonian Zoo, Warner Bros., Ride Snowboards, The American Museum of Natural History, and countless agencies and publications. We've worked on a wide variety of projects over the years: animation, typeface design, identity, web design--and have even tried our hand at designing things like silk pocket squares and flocked wallpaper. We've also turned our tools on ourselves, writing, designing and illustrating a book, which has won an avid following and has been optioned for film. Our work has been shown in numerous venues, like Jonathan LeVine Gallery, and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.

Our work is heavily influenced and inspired by living things and natural history, which plays a large role in our everyday lives. We've bushwhacked through ancient Mayan cities, dived with and pet great white sharks, seen 30,000 year-old Aboriginal cave art, been charged by elephants, and have been stung in the face by Portuguese men-o-war. When not working on projects, we sit on committees for Bartram's Garden as well as serve as wildlife guides. We enjoy gardening, and have an outdoor bog garden for our collection of carnivorous plants. We also enjoy terrarium gardens, where we keep some rare tropical pitcher plants. We've also started to collect orchids, specifically of the genus Paphiopedilum.
