APOGEE TYPEFACE
I designed Apogee waaaaay back in 1994, but I still see it used on occasion (click image above to see the Apogee scrapbook).
Without a doubt, it's a flawed typeface--there are plenty of tics in its design that have always induced a hearty cringe. It was very much an amateur effort, but I have seen a couple typefaces come along that borrowed some of Apogee's forms and improved on them. The fact that Apogee still plods along and generates enough of a yearly royalty check to cover a cheap dinner is something of a comfort.
Apogee was exhbited at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum's 1996 exhibition "Mixing Messages: Graphic Design in Contemporary Culture". It's still distributed and sold by [T-26] in Chicago (click link to view entire character set). |
